According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, August 14, around 7:30 p.m.
Authorities have reportedly explained that Keleman pulled in front of 53-year-old Jason Williams in a Taco Bell drive-thru. Williams allegedly blew his horn at Keleman. Additionally, the man allegedly struck the back of her car with his.
After her car was hit, the 25-year-old allegedly asked an employee to call the police. However, Williams allegedly exited his vehicle and shot the 25-year-old before turning the gun on himself.
According to the outlet, Keleman succumbed to a gunshot wound to the neck, while Williams succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head.
Furthermore, the Akron Beacon Journal adds that police received 14 calls about the incident when it occurred.
Why Did Jason Williams Commit The Murder-Suicide?
According to the outlet, Williams’ motive for the shooting remains unknown. Additionally, it appears as if he and Keleman did not know one another.
“This is a true tragedy,” Stow Police Chief Jeffrey Film reportedly explained during a press conference earlier this week. “Not only did the Kelemans lose a daughter, but the community lost one of our daughters… We at this time do not have an answer as to why this happened, and we may never know why.”
WKBN adds that as of August 15, it is “not yet known whether” the 53-year-old “was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
“It appears the person was in crisis,” Film reportedly explained per the outlet. “I don’t think we’ll ever be able to explain the motivation behind his decision-making.”
What Happens Next?
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the case is reportedly being investigated by “The Summit County Medical Examiner, Stow Police Department and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.” The outlet adds that the last homicide that occurred in Stow, Ohio, was “five years ago,” and at this present moment, the city “does not have enough homicide detectives to cover the case.”
“In a situation like this, we want to do the best job that we possibly can, and with their added resources… I think that will help us make a determination of how this happened,” Film reportedly explained per USA Today.
Furthermore, the outlet adds that Keleman’s family has released a statement amid her death.
“In light of the recent events, our family is enduring an immensely painful loss of Megan Elizabeth Keleman,” the statement reportedly reads. “We appreciate the community’s support and hope that our request for privacy will be honored so we can continue to focus on supporting each other through this difficult period.”
The outlet adds that the Taco Bell has remained closed since the incident. The location is reportedly prioritizing the employees’ “well-being and proceed[ing] at their pace.”
Furthermore, the company is reportedly offering workers resources for “support” and cooperating with authorities’ investigation.
