Great friends are hard to come by, but the right group of girlfriends can be the silver lining when times get rough. Whether you need to let out a good cry or have a good night out on the town, your girls will never let you down. Pull up a chair this Women’s History Month and toast your glass with some of TV’s greatest Black girlfriend TV series, from the classic New York City roommates in Living Single to the long-lost sisters taking on California in Half & Half. These are some of the best girlfriend connections to ever grace our screens.

Girlfriends (Netflix)

One of the most famouse quartet of friends of all time, these ladies know how to balance work and play. Starring Tracee Ellis Ross, Golden Brooks, Persia White and Jill Marie Jones, the fabulous foursome of Joan, Maya, Lynn and Toni took California by storm, managing their careers in law, real estate and grad school while gathering for regular girl talks about life, love and the power of friendship (the good, bad, and definitely stank!), straight up, no chaser. You can stream all eight seasons of the sitcom on Netflix.

Supateam 4 (Netflix)

The power of friendship can fend off evil forces any day. While they may appear to be just average teenage girls at school, friends Monde, Temwe, Zikomo, and Komana come together to form Supa Team 4, defending the city of Lusaka from supervillains. Netflix is home to this African-inspired animated series from South Africa.

Harlem (Prime Video)

It’s not easy trying to find love in the heart of the city, especially not in the hectic streets of Harlem. Four former NYU classmates: Camille, Quinn, Angie, and Tye, learn to lean on each other as they try to carve out their own spaces in the tech, music, and fashion industries—and make time for romance, too. You can stream both seasons of the comedy on Prime Video.

Living Single (Hulu)

These girls were spreading love the Brooklyn way. Headlined by Queen Latifah, the series follows roommates Kadijah, Regina and Synclaire as they navigate their fledgling businesses and romances with the help of Kadijah’s best friend, Maxine. You can stream this 90’s classic on Hulu and Max.

Run the World (Prime)

It’s easier to rule the world when you have your girlfriends by your side. Friends Whitney, Ella, Renee and Sondi come into their own as young women in Harlem as they face big changes and challenges in life, including everything from engagement and divorce to motherhood and chasing after your big career break. You can stream both seasons of the comedic drama on Prime Video.

First Wives Club (BET+)

These women are the definition of “sisters before misters!” After Ari, Bree and Hazel are left to pick up the pieces of their broken marriages, the three ladies come together to rebuild themselves and their lives through their strong sisterhood. The series stars Michelle Beateau, Jill Scott, Ryan Michelle Bathe and Michelle Mitchenor, you can stream all three seasons of this original series on BET+.

Half & Half (Paramount+)

There’s no better friend in this world than your literal sister. Estranged half-sisters Mona and Dee Dee Thorne come together by chance when they end up sharing the same apartment building in San Francisco. With Mona’s street smarts and Dee Dee’s irresistible charm, the two learn to become a family as they balance work and boyfriends in their twenties. You can stream all four seasons of the sitcom on Paramount+.

Insecure (Max)

Changing the world is easier when you’ve got a friend like Issa by your side. As Issa (played by series creator Issa Rae) and her best friend Molly struggle to come into their own while in South Los Angeles, they find themselves in the face of heartbreak and racial injustice. They rely on each other’s support as they try to take on the world as Black women. You can stream all five seasons on Max.

Single Ladies (BET+)

These single ladies are too ambitious to settle for less. While friends April, Raquel, Christina and Keisha may have different ambitions in life, they all count on each other to find the strength to break free from their careers and sour relationships to finally live the lives they truly want in Atlanta’s chaotic entertainment scene. You can stream all four seasons of the drama on BET+.
