The Wrap-Up: Biden Curates Presidential Link Up. Celebrating Black Men’s Mental Health. Aladdin on Broadway Turns 10

Written by on March 31, 2024

Yesterday, President Joe Biden hosted a fundraiser in New York City to support his presidential campaign. Hosted by comedian and late-night television host Stephen Colbert, President Biden was joined by two former United States Presidents, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, for an epic trio. The three leaders spoke—lightheartedly yet sternly—about the upcoming election and concerns about the stake of our democracy.

“I think our democracy is at stake, not a joke, I think democracy is literally at stake. Look, I wasn’t going to run in 2020 because I had just lost my son Beau… until I watched what happened in Virginia,” President Biden shared. He continued, “When those folks came out of the fields carrying torches and Nazi flags, accompanied by white supremacists, and a young woman was killed, a bystander. And when the former President was asked what he thought he said ‘There are very fine people on both sides.’”

It was fun and memories for the tenth-anniversary celebratory performance of Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway inside the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. Michael James Scott, currently playing Genie in the long-running production, ushered in a night of cameo appearances from the original Broadway cast. Genie, James Monroe Iglehart, who won a 2014 Tony Award® for his work, made an appearance, along with the original Aladdin (Adam Jacobs), Jasmine (Courtney Reed) and character actor Jonathan Freeman, who created Jafar in the animated film before originating the role on Broadway.
