If you’re interested in learning about the history of bourbon and African American heritage, Kentucky is the perfect place to visit. It offers an excellent opportunity to explore the bourbon experience and discover the rest of Bourbon Country. Plenty of distilleries are within walking distance of each other, and they continue to book tours for visitors to sample the best.

Discover Kentucky’s top black-owned bourbon companies on the Bourbon Trail, whether you explore it independently or with your family.

Brough Brothers

Did you know that Brough Brothers is Louisville’s first African American distillery? Founded by Victor, Bryson, and Chris Yarbrough in their hometown, Brough Brothers offers a unique opportunity to taste the history of bourbon. On the first day of your itinerary, take a trip down memory lane and enjoy their signature bottles of bourbon and cocktails. Guests can sip and enjoy the amazing cocktails while learning about the rich history of this iconic distillery.

Fresh Bourbon

The original classic Bourbon is truly unmatched. Sean and Tia Edwards were the first African American couple to create and establish a multi-million dollar distillery in Lexington, KY. If you’re interested in trying out some bourbon, the Fresh Bourbon has a tasting room to enjoy a mixology and bourbon experience. The tasting room is also perfect for taking pictures as it offers an upscale and elegant atmosphere for individual and group experiences.

The IX Bourbon

Brittany Penny is the founder of 2 Cents Inc., a distillery that specializes in bourbon. She came up with the idea for the distillery in September 2020, during the pandemic, with her husband and three-month-old daughter. Her goal was to create a space where people could come together to talk about their wine and spirit preferences and build relationships around their shared love of bourbon. You can find 2 Cents Inc.’s bourbon at local wine bars in the Kentucky region.
