Sueños Festival Organizers Shuffle Day 2 Lineup Following Thunderstorm in Chicago

Written by on May 26, 2024

Sueños festival-goers will get to see four out of the nine artists that were set to perform on Sunday (May 26) in Chicago’s Grant Park. Following thunderstorms and severe weather alerts, organizers announced early in the morning that “doors for Day 2 of Sueños Festival will be delayed until further notice,” a decision made in coordination with the City of Chicago Public Safety and the National Weather Service.

Nearly five hours later, the festival gave a second update on social media, unveiling a new start time and an updated lineup that included the last four acts: Jowell y Randy, Mora, Maluma and Peso Pluma. Other artists who had been previously confirmed for earlier slots — such as Bad Gyal, Gabito Ballesteros and Manuel Turizo — are no longer set to perform.

“Thanks for the patience! We are working hard to prep the festival grounds for you all,” they announced in a statement around 1:30 p.m. local time. “Due to the storm, the artist setups were delayed and we need more time to make sure they are able to play the best show with no technical issues. Because of this and repairs to the grounds, doors will open around 4pm. For safety reasons please don’t arrive to the park prior to 3pm. Once we open, please be patient as we process everyone into the site.”

The comment section of the post quickly filled with fans’ opinions. Some protested the changes, saying it was a “nightmare,” while others requested a refund for getting “half a show.” Another person seemed more optimistic, writing, “look on the bright side, day 1 was historic.”

The festival’s opening day featured performances by Xavi, Ivan Cornejo, Young Miko, Bizarrap and Rauw Alejandro. This year, Sueños, now in its third year, was sold out for the first time with 65,000 expected each day.
