Kevin Hart is one funny little man, and he’ll be the first one to joke about it. Through comedy tours, movies, network specials and even commercials, he’s always bringing the jokes (to a lucrative tune of a $90 million net worth, according to Parade magazine) to the masses.
With his recent award from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, EBONY sought out a few more reasons to prove Hart is one of the funniest guys out there, and what can we say: we got facts.
He’s won the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor
You know you’ve done something right when you get awarded by the Kennedy Center. Hart joins an illustrious list of names as the recipient of the 25th Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Initially awarded on March 24, 2024, Netflix is airing a special of the gala ceremony on May 11. The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, presented by Wells Fargo, recognizes individuals who have impacted American society through their comical craft.
“To be honored in this commemorative year feels surreal,” Hart shared about winning the prize. “Comedy is my outlet for social commentary and observations on life—I am grateful to the Kennedy Center for recognizing my voice and impact on culture. I can’t wait to celebrate!” Dave Chappelle, Tiffany Haddish, Regina Hall, Chris Rock, J.B. Smoove and more will also appear in the special.
He’s launching his ninth comedy tour
Hart has been making the funnies for over 30 years, bringing laughter with his iconic characters, inimitable physical comedy, and relatable narratives. And now he’s returning to his roots. Hart is launching his ninth comedy tour, Acting My Age, this summer. “I wanted to change things up by creating a more intimate environment,” he revealed on social media. “This hour is about connecting with the audience and feeding off the crowd’s energy and laughter.” His new tour starts Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Westbury Music Fair in Westbury, New York.
He’s broken records
When it comes to the stand-up circuit, Hart is a major boss. He’s one of a handful of comics to sell out shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden (which holds nearly 20,000 guests). His 2013 movie, Let Me Explain, has been the highest-grossing comedy stand-up film since Eddie Murphy’s Raw.
